Megalopolis

Chicago is a Megalopolis in every sense of the word. It is included in the great lakes megalopolis groups, and Chicago's metropolitan area is ranked #1 with a population around 2.7 million. Chicago is the largest city in the Midwest region and has access to the second largest labor pool in the U.S. with 4.25 million people to pull from. Chicago generates the third largest metropolitan product in the U.S.  and has become a world financial center. It's home to 12 of the Fortune Global 500 Companies. 




Chicago has an interaction with other regions throughout it's creation of canals to the Mississippi river valley and the Great Lakes region. Its modes of transportation revolves around it's residential, industrial and commercial uses. There are many public services and accessibility accommodations that have been developed to provide a wide range of public spaces, transportation and health facilities. The Chicago Transit Authority is one of the best run public transportation services and is a leader in change through redevelopment to provide for it's growing future.
